Guatemala Journal Entry for 6/18/01

Rode back from airport
Walked around the streets
Got coffee (Café de Leon) with Ben, Claudio, Jim and Steve
Talked to a girl for directions on where we are on the Guatemala City model, in some tourist center
Several people were watching us as we interacted and walked around
The sidewalks had gaping holes
The cars were very noisy and produced lots of exhaust pollution
Guards stood at store entrances with shotguns

We went to the church for a few items – eating service, welcoming, family shuffle, etc. There was some pretty amazing food served to us in the small apartment above the church, which was the minister’s house. The food consisted of four helpings with some special spicy milk – awesome. From 6-7pm, the ladies served us food; we were instructed to let them and not to help, as it was their way to show their appreciation and love for us. From 7-9:26pm, was church service… some scribbles about the service:

it was loud, partially translated, music was lively and the whole congregation participated
the people were so very thankful to the “missionaries” for think of them before ourselves, following our hearts, and helping them with this great task.
they presented a surprise – a mass hug line … they had some awesome love in their attitude and character… it sparkled thru their beings
the kids were wonderful - very friendly, even though we couldn’t speak Spanish
The kids, older and younger, showed such sincerity and love when playing (the church band), the young ones when talking inside and out… etc
